August Checkride Successes at Pelican

August was a strong month on the checkride board at North Perry Airport. Five Pelican students passed their FAA practical tests: two earned Flight Instructor certificates, two passed their Commercial checkrides and one earned a Private Pilot certificate. Congratulations to every one of them.

What a Checkride Is

A checkride is the FAA practical test that turns training into a certificate. It has two parts: an oral exam, where a Designated Pilot Examiner questions the applicant on regulations, systems, weather and decision making, and a flight portion, where the applicant demonstrates the required maneuvers to FAA standards. Passing it is the moment a student officially becomes a certificated pilot or instructor.

The Certified Flight Instructor rating is one of the hardest checkrides in general aviation, because the applicant has to teach every maneuver while flying it. It is also the certificate that turns a pilot into a paid professional.
