Airplane Commercial Pilot Certification in the USA

A Federal Aviation Administration Part 141/61 Program
The commercial pilot certificate permits the holder to act as pilot in command of an airplane carrying passengers or other property while being paid for services as pilot or required crew member. A commercial pilot may engage in such operations as charter, air taxi, aircraft ferry or delivery, agricultural applications, corporate/airline pilot and instructing (with appropriate additional instructor certificates). This certificate is the basic qualification for the career pilot.

Training in this program is conducted in single-engine aircraft, and is based on the minimum time requirements of Federal Regulations. However, only in our school we can offer to you the unique FAA approved Part 141 Commercial Pilot Certification Course that allows you to get your licence for only 120 (!) hours of flight time. Time and hours over and above these minimums will be charged at school published rates.

Becoming a Professional Pilot: The Path to a Commercial Pilot License (CPL)

Starting a career as a professional pilot requires earning a Commercial Pilot License (CPL), a key certification for those looking to work in aviation. A CPL enhances your piloting skills and unlocks career opportunities, such as becoming a charter pilot, flight instructor, or progressing toward an airline career within the United States aviation industry.

At Pelican Flight Training, we bring over 40 years of expertise in aviation education, offering a structured and effective approach to pilot training. Located in South Florida, our students benefit from excellent year-round flying conditions while gaining experience in high-traffic airspace. Our commitment to excellence is reflected in our 100% success rate for FAA exams among program graduates.

Choosing Pelican Flight Training means receiving top-tier education in a professional and supportive setting that prepares students for success in the aviation sector.

What is a Commercial Pilot License (CPL)?

A Commercial Pilot License (CPL) is a professional aviation certification that allows pilots to legally earn compensation for their flying services. Unlike a Private Pilot License (PPL), which is restricted to non-commercial flying, a CPL ensures a pilot’s proficiency in advanced flight operations, navigation techniques, and strict aviation safety protocols.

Earning a CPL is a major milestone in a pilot’s career, as it is a necessary credential for roles in charter aviation, cargo transportation, and flight instruction. Additionally, it serves as a stepping stone for pilots seeking careers with commercial airlines in the United States and beyond.

A CPL from Pelican Flight Training not only verifies your technical abilities but also provides the comprehensive education and practical experience needed for a long-term career in aviation.

Why Choose Pelican Flight Training for Your Commercial Pilot License (CPL)?

Pelican Flight Training is a leading choice for students pursuing a Commercial Pilot License (CPL), thanks to our state-of-the-art training resources, expert instructors, and a prime location in South Florida. Here’s what makes our CPL program stand out:

1. Modern Training Facilities and Equipment

We offer access to a well-maintained fleet of aircraft, including the Cessna 152, a widely used and efficient trainer aircraft. Additionally, our ALSIM AATD SE simulator allows students to practice complex flight maneuvers, instrument navigation, and emergency procedures in a controlled environment.

2. Experienced and Certified Flight Instructors

Our FAA-certified instructors bring years of aviation experience, ensuring each student receives personalized training and professional mentorship. Their expertise helps students develop both technical proficiency and confidence to handle real-world aviation challenges in the U.S. airspace system.

3. Prime Location in South Florida

The South Florida region provides ideal weather conditions year-round, allowing students to complete flight training efficiently with minimal weather-related disruptions. Additionally, our location near major international airports—including Miami International (MIA), Fort Lauderdale International (FLL), and Opa-Locka Executive (OPF)—gives students valuable exposure to real-world air traffic operations.

4. Accreditation and Outstanding Student Success

Pelican Flight Training is an FAA Part 141-approved school and holds accreditation from the ACCSC, ensuring that our curriculum meets the highest industry standards. Our school boasts a 100% FAA exam pass rate and 100% employment placement for CPL graduates, setting students up for success in the aviation workforce in the United States and globally.

By training with Pelican Flight Training, students not only earn a CPL but also gain the expertise and hands-on experience needed to excel in aviation careers.

Eligibility Requirements for the Commercial Pilot License (CPL) Program

To ensure students are fully prepared for success, Pelican Flight Training has established the following eligibility requirements for CPL candidates:

1. Age and Medical Certification

  • Minimum Age: Applicants must be at least 18 years old by the time they complete the course.

  • FAA Medical Certificate: A Class 1 or Class 2 medical certificate is required to confirm that students meet the necessary physical and mental health standards for safe flight operations.

2. Language Proficiency

  • Candidates must be able to read, speak, and understand English fluently, as English is the official language of aviation in the United States and internationally.

3. Pilot Licensing and Ratings

  • Private Pilot License (PPL): Students must already hold a valid PPL before enrolling in the CPL program.

  • Instrument Rating: In the United States, an Instrument Rating (IR) is required to obtain a full CPL. If students do not already possess an IR, they must complete this rating as part of their CPL training under FAA regulations.

4. Additional Documentation

  • International students must obtain an M-1 visa and receive TSA clearance before starting flight training in the United States.

  • A valid pilot logbook documenting prior flight experience is required. Students with fewer hours must ensure their logbooks meet the minimum entry requirements for CPL training.

By meeting these prerequisites, students ensure a smooth progression through the Pelican Flight Training CPL program, preparing them for a successful aviation career.
