Pelican history

Who we are

Founded in 1985, Pelican Flight School is a proud member of South Florida’s aviation community. Over the years, we’ve come to develop a sterling reputation based on our low student-to-flight instructor ratio, our flawless safety record, and decades of combined aviation experience. READ MORE

We focus our training around our instructors’ experience working for major international carriers. To ensure that our students can take advantage of their real-world expertise.

Our instructors are either former high-ranking officers for major international carriers, former military pilots, navigators (holding positions such as ATC Specialists), B-747 Captain, including President of other Aviation entities, and our former graduated students. The courses of our Flight Training school are designed to deliver student-centered learning based on our instructors’ wide range of real-world professional expertise. We focus every aspect of our training to support, inspire, and provide the mentorship necessary for our students to achieve their career goals. READ MORE

Our mission, since we were founded in 1984, has been to deliver a high-quality program for our students which enables them to thrive within the Aviation Industry. Keeping this goal for our students as our driving force is what has allowed us to keep growing as a company through all the significant changes that flight training schools have seen for more than 30 years

South Florida’s Leaders in Flight Training

Since the school opened its doors in 1984, we’ve led flight training programs that have stayed at the cutting edge of aviation science and technology. Our courses are custom tailored to fit our students’ needs, regardless of their flight status when they come to us. Whether you already have a license from a different country and need to convert your license to meet FAA standards for a career in the United States or are starting with zero flight hours, we have the courses you need to move your career forward.

Get Your Career as a Pilot in the United States Off the Ground

Where we are

This mission is also one of the reasons we chose to base our operations in South Florida; the moderate climate with consistent wind patterns makes the area one of the best places in the world to start your flight career, as we have more flying time and less waiting for weather to clear frustrations

We are a Fixed-Base operator out of North Perry Airport in Hollywood

Florida which has four lit, paved runways (with the longest coming in at 3,350 feet/1,021 meters). This provides our students with multiple benefits. Logistically, we are equidistant between Miami International Airport (MIA), Opa-Locka International Airport (OPF) and Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL), giving our students easy access to our facility – no matter where they are coming from around the world.

Further, our location, combined with the fact that the winds are predominantly west-east or east-west, gives us consistently ample air space to operate in while also providing our students with invaluable experience operating in a major metropolitan area with multiple busy airports . In short, being here will make you a better pilot – in the professional and great climate environment in the world!

How to pick the right option for you. why us?

There are more than 1400 flight schools across the country, and each one is unique. When you are choosing the right flight school for you, here are a few factors to consider.

CONVENIENCE

Convenience can mean a lot of different things. For us, convenience means that a school be both easily accessible and offer good flight weather.

Our location between FLL, OPF and MIA means that there are more than 1,400 flights a day into the area from around the world. Further, our location at North Perry Airport in Pembroke Pines, Florida provides us with direct access to all of Central and South Florida.

North Perry, being a controlled airport, meaning – with an active tower, offers a variety of services, such as traffic patterns that reduce the work load, and create less conflict.

Furthermore, with a special training zone being 5 minutes away, we enjoy a quiet flight environment, but still at the vicinity of busy airspace. Our location- in that manner, will provide the optimal training scene for you! The ability to practice instruments approach at 3 international airports, maneuvering whom can be done only at practice areas, all with the organized and safe environment of a controlled airport.

Meaning, our location, combined with the fact that the winds are predominantly west-east or east-west, gives us consistently ample air space to operate in while also providing our students with invaluable experience operating in a major metropolitan area with multiple busy airports . In other words, you'll become a better pilot by being here, in the great work- and weather-related environment in the world!

Our location also provides us with year-round optimum weather conditions for flying. This, combined with the fact that we are open seven days a week, means we can ensure you are able to obtain the flight hours you need in as short a time as possible.

FLIGHT SCHOOL RECOGNITION, APPROVALS & ACCREDITATION

While there are many certified flight schools, we take it a step further. We are U.S. Federal Aviation Adminisration Certified Part 141 Flight School which is accredited by Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) for our Professional Pilot Program for both Airplanes and Helicopters. The ACCSC is a recognized accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education.

This accreditation means that our students are able to apply some (or all) of their education hours received with us towards obtaining an advanced aviation degree in addition to achieving their pilot licences and ratings.

We are certified by the FAA as a Part 141 school, but we also have certified Part 61 programs in our training for some individual requests.

FACILITIES EVERYWHERE

As a Fixed-Base Operator out of North Perry Airport, we have been able to develop a cutting-edge facility with Advanced Aircraft Training Devices, library, spacious briefing areas and classrooms, and a 14,000 square foot maintenance facility.

Our goal is to provide all of the tools necessary for our students to get the experience they need and ensure that our instructors can focus on teaching.

LOCATION

Our location in Pembroke Pines, just outside of Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale, provides our students with a safe environment at a relatively low cost. Being that we are a short 20 minutes drive away from Miami, South Beach, Wynwood, and many other touristic locations. The living expenses in our area are significantly lower. There are nearby apartments available to rent from as low as $500 a month for a shared apartment or $800 a month for a private apartment as well as ready access to South Florida’s world-class beaches for any downtime.

Being just off the Gulf Stream, South Florida’s weather patterns are remarkably consistent with a significant amount of warning before bad weather enters the area. This gives us the ability to maximize our flight times and provides our students with a relatively controlled environment that enables them to gain experience quickly.

COntinuing Education

As an accredited flight school, our programs will earn you hours towards your future aviation degree. So whether you’re interested in converting your license to meet FAA standards or seeking a premier CFI course to train as a flight instructor, Pelican Flight Training is your home base. More than 90% of our Professional Pilot Program students are hired upon graduation.

Furthermore, a great opportunity for our students is the B.A / M.A in Riga Aeronautical Institute. These are credited for their flight training and continue on to climb up the ladder as they are hired in commercial airlines.

Riga Aeronautical Institute is a great opportunity for our students, at Pelican Flight Training. Riga Aeronautical Institute (RAI) Latvia, EU, is the University with almost 75-year history in professional aviation education and more than 50 thousand successful graduates. On a world-wide scale the Riga Aeronautical Institute is one of the oldest educational institutions specialized on aviation. Founded in 1942, it adapted itself to the challenges of time and domain. Riga Aeronautical Institute is the owner and Managing Partner in Pelican Flight Training since 2010. school has an excellent reputation and strong training ethic, which was acknowledged when Pelican Flight Training was named a 2008 "Schools of Distinction" and “School of Excellence” by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).
