General Questions

Is 30 too old to learn how to fly?
At Pelican Flight Training, we believe there is no age limit for pursuing your dream. Many successful commercial pilots started their training in their 30s or even 40s. What matters is your health and dedication.
Is Florida good for flight training?
Yes, Florida is one of the world's premier flight training hubs. The year-round sunny weather allows for consistent training schedules, meaning you can finish your ratings much faster than in colder climates.

Admissions & Requirements

Do you accept international students?
Yes, Pelican Flight Training is authorized under Federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students. We provide support for M-1 and F-1 visa applications to help you train in the USA.
What are the medical requirements?
To fly as a pilot, you must obtain an FAA Medical Certificate. For commercial pilots, a First Class Medical is typically required. We recommend getting this cleared before you begin intensive training.
Do I need a 4-year degree to be a pilot?
No, a degree is not required to get your commercial pilot license. While some major airlines used to prefer it, the industry now focuses almost entirely on your flight hours, skills, and safety record.

Costs & Flight Training

How much does it cost to get a Private Pilot License?
The cost varies based on how often you fly and how quickly you learn, but typically ranges between $12,000 and $16,000. This includes aircraft rental, instructor fees, and fuel.
What aircraft will I be flying?
Our fleet primarily consists of Cessna 152 and Cessna 172 aircraft for primary training, as well as multi-engine aircraft for advanced ratings. These are the most reliable and widely used training planes in the world.
